Craig Kohlruss is an award-winning photojournalist who has been worked in the daily news business for the past 35 years. This includes his position with The Fresno Bee photography staff from 1999-2026.

Over the years, Craig has captured many of the Central Valley’s most iconic images by documenting its historic events, important moments and amazing people through both video and still photography.

Craig is a graduate of San Jose State’s photojournalism program. He’s a former National Press Photographers Association board member and recipient of numerous photography awards from the California News Publishers Association, the California News Photographers Association, the NPPA and others.

As a freelance photographer in the Fresno-Yosemite area, Craig has been providing eye-catching, professional work for dozens of clients around the area and beyond. He’s also a pretty nice guy to work with.

Craig is an expert at capturing telling moments as they happen — whether it be breaking news, events, profiles, or sports — he documents authentic visuals of real-life people in real-life situations as they happen, capturing real people doing the real things, photographed professionally and artistically.

Additionally, Craig’s super talented wife Carmen Kohlruss is an award-winning writer and journalist. The pair has teamed up numerous times as Fresno Bee co-workers and continue to do so as freelance contributors while based in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Carmen can be contacted here.
